Does your child have enthusiasm towards reading? Does he want to read? Children are often not interested in reading. This is because at that age they are more diverted towards playing and other activities. In today’s generation TV and computers are the main enemies of children. All the electronic devices have encapsulated the attention of children.
There are a number of ways in which you could get your children interested in reading. One of the tested and verified methods is to find out what excites your children. Also find what makes your children excited. This will help you find the perfect book for your children. There are books in almost all categories. You should get the first book for your child very carefully. As that book decides your children’s take on reading.
Another great way to get your children interested in reading is to start early. Imbibing the quality of reading at an early age gives a long term benefit for the children.
Parents should also set an example for their children. We all know that children learn from what they see. Hence it is important that children see that their parents and elders around them read to. Just preaching about it and no t doing so is not going to help.
A greater start for new readers is to start with the classics for children. Books such as the famous five, secret seven and twinkle have proven to be the best books for children over the years. These books have easy English and also a simple yet interesting story.
You can also give your children the idea of rewards after finishing each book. This will give them motivation. They should also be explained why reading books is important. Give them guidelines and goals. Tell them the knowledge they would get by reading. Also tell them the advantages and real life stories.
I would like to conclude that reading has many perks to it and it is very important. Parents attitude towards it plays a very important role and hence they should actively participate in building a good character in reading for their children.
