Video Games are good for you!
Video games have become of a major part of children’s life. It’s a common norm that video games are bad for children. But they can be beneficial in a lot of ways.
Video games help in a lot ways which people generally tend to ignore. Video games help in boosting memory. A recent study from the University of California-Irvine showed that playing video games affected the part of the brain which deals with learning and memory. Children who played video games had approximately 12% more memory power than those children who did not. Video games help in memory by involuntary stimulation. This refers to the fact that games have to remember so many things such as how to play, what are the characters and cheat codes. Thus the same technique they use to remember all this is applied elsewhere.
Video games also help in increasing coordination. Fast paced games and first hand shooting games help in increasing hand eye coordination and also increase motor and decision making skills. All these video games require a high amount of coordination and hence on repeated playing it helps improve it.
Video games also help in overall concentration, focus and perspective of children. Children get so involved in these video games that it involuntarily helps them in a wide ranged way. Recently it has been seen that surgeons are made to play video games to improve stability, concentration and coordination while performing surgery.
One more very important pro of video games for children is that it greatly affects decision making in the middle of a heated game children often need to choose between two options. They often learn how to choose what is best for them. This affects their decision making capabilities and makes them better at.
While video games have so many benefits it should also be controlled. Too much is always too bad. Playing video games extensively can harm your eyesight. Constant exposure to artificial light damages your eyesight. Playing video games constantly also harms the posture of children.
Hence in the end we can say that video games are not completely bad. They are very beneficial when given in right doses. So now parents don’t need to worry all the time when their children play video games.
