How to deal with Temper Tantrums!
Temper tantrums is one of the most difficult things to deal with for parents. Temper tantrums are very hard to deal with. According child psychology experts children don’t throw temper tantrums to be naughty, irritating, seek attention or manipulate. They throw temper tantrums because they are angry, frustrated and don’t know how to express what they are feeling or want. Children don’t have enough words to say what they want or are going through. As a result they tend to throw temper tantrums.
One of the most important things while dealing with temper tantrums is to remain calm. Parents should remain calm and composed while dealing with children throwing temper tantrums. It will not help if you also throw a misplaced anger episode.
After calming themselves down parents should make sure the child has everything that he/she needs. This does not mean giving what he ‘wants’ or getting his way in things. It simply means to check if there is any basic problem. It can be hunger, sleep, shower, cold, sick etc. Make sure all these things are taken care of. Sometimes kids tend to throw temper tantrums because they do not get enough attention from you. Hence you should try and give the attention they need. You can ask them what is wrong and show love and affection towards them.
One of the reasons children throw temper tantrums is because they have been told no. It is very important that parents tell their children why they said no to a particular thing. Not budging when they throw temper tantrum is also very important. Else children will make it a habit to get what they want. Such a situation is not ideal and will create long term problems. Instead parents can offer alternative coping mechanism to their kids.
Sometimes temper tantrums are also related to environmental factors. It may not be you or them which are causing the problem. It maybe a toy, a different person, climate, or any other object that is causing the tantrum. Hence parents should make sure that the child is in a comfortable surrounding and he or she is not threatened in any kind of way.
In the end we can surely say that parents should handle such temper tantrums effectively for maintaining the sanity of the situations and also to come across to their children.
