Does Your Mood Impact your Child’s Growth?
In this competitive world everyone has a lot of tension and stress. This affects their mood. This mental state affects everyone around them. When it comes to parents it is even more stressful as this mood often affects their children. In a scenario where both the mother and the father work the children are affected the most.
Children often learn from what they see and hear around them. When their parents are in bad mood they often show aggressive behavior which the kids are quick to grasp. Bad mood often leads to arguments which the children might feel trapped under. This results in the feeling hopelessness and insecurity in children. This causes the children to become aggressive and repulsive.
Based on the mood of parents in the mornings the child’s school day is also affected. This eventually leads to poor academic performance. And when children realize that the parents’ are not in good mood they feel scared to approach them. They are scared of the reaction they would get. Hence this leads to a communication gap between children and parents.
A study by Michigan state university shows that dads’ mood adversely affects the children’s mental and behavioral development. It affects language development among young children. It also affects their social skills and turns them into introverts. When parents are in bad mood they tend to overreact and scold their children for the slightest of things. They tend to misplace their anger on their children. This may lead to children feeling overpowered and inferior.
Parents need to learn how to handle their mood at least in front of their children. They need to understand the affect they cause on their children. Parents should keep their mood in check. Even if they are in a bad mood they should learn to divert it in a different area and not on their children. When parents are in a bad mood they should try not to interact with their children much. Saying nothing is always better than saying anything negative and harsh.
Parents should also balance their mood swings and try to remain in a good mood. Parents should take up recreational activities such as yoga, zumba, cooking etc. It should be something they enjoy. It can also be something they want to learn or develop a new skill. This is better for them as well as their children.
In the end to conclude we can say that parents’ mood plays a major role in the overall development of children. It is very important for the parents to give positive vibes to their children. This will strengthen their bond and also help children to have a wholesome growth.
