A guide to Time Management for Kids
Time management is very crucial in today’s hectic life. Time management is important for both parents and children. Time management needs to be taught to children at a young age so that they do not lose out on anything.
School going children need to balance homework, studies, extracurricular activities and play time. All this needs to be in equal proportions for the wholesome development of children.
There are a number of ways children can be taught about time management. First of all children should be observed if they already are managing their time well. Otherwise children will tend to feel over told and burdened.
Children should be told to design a time table for themselves. It is important for them to do it themselves because in that way they will take it seriously and try their best to follow it. If given by parents there might be a chance they feel burden and forced upon.
Parents should also try and monitor their children’s time table and encourage them. They could keep a points table for their children. When their children would reach a certain amount of points they could give them rewards. The rewards could be in the form of chocolates and other treats or movies and other things like that.
Children should be given example of what wonders time management can do. They should themselves be allowed to realize it’s important.
A survey done with 150 parents and their children shows that 75% of the parents who did not force time management on their children had better results in their children. Their children were seen to become more responsible and careful about their activities.
Some parents tend to hold their kids back from extracurricular activities and play time because they think it will affect their academics.
Rather than doing that parents should encourage their children’s passion and overall development and along with that tell them how to manage their time and give them different ideas on how to manage it and let them chose what they want to do.
Hence time management should be cultivated over time with own interest and the guidance of parents. It should not be faked or forced upon children.
