How do your children perceive Festivals?
Festivals are an important part of Indian culture. We have so many festivals in all the various cultures in India. There is also a very deep meaning and lesson behind them. Today’s generation always wants to know the facts and truth behind everything. They want to know why anything has to be done. They want to know the scientific reason behind everything.
Hence it is very important for parents to know about the festivals they are celebrating. Parents need to learn about the festivals in detail so that they can explain it to their children. When children know why they are doing something they are more intrigued and interested in celebrating the festival.
Children should also be told by their parents that festivals are not all about buying new cloths, eating sweets and holidays. They should be told about why that particular event became a festival. They should convey the story behind the festival in a fun way. This way the children will not get bored and also learn the lesson behind it.
Even after all this some children may seem very disinterested in the festive season and culture. Well parents can tell them to participate in the festive preparation so that there is something interesting for them to do. Children usually love making Rangoli and decorating with Diyas. They can also take them out with their friends and cousins to temples and other places of celebrations. This makes them realize that festivals can be fun too.
Another thing parents can do to imbibe festive culture in youngsters is to make normal festive procedures a little more exciting. They can think of innovative ideas to do a particular task. This will develop curiosity and interest in the children.
I personally believe that festivals bring families closer and help in bonding. This should be imbibed into children at a young age so that they do not find it difficult to adapt as they grow older. The parent’s attitude towards the celebration of festivals plays an important role in the thinking and mentality of children. Hence parents should decide early on as to how they want their children to think and feel about festivals.
